Huge JBCSC volunteer effort in July

This month, there has been a huge volunteer effort supporting JBCSC in preparation for de-amalgamation. This includes:

• JBCSC’s Board and Project Team finalising the submission on financial viability, and working through all legal and contractual requirements for de-amalgamation

• Working bees to clean up the Vincentia precinct

• Preparation and promotion of the Evening Celebration & Fundraiser at Worrowing on Saturday, 8 August

• Ongoing tasks undertaken by JBCSC’s Communications and Fundraising Committees, and the Community Working Group.

In total, we have about 100 volunteers contributing to one or more JBCSC initiatives!

Vincentia Precinct Clean-Up

Carpark Maintenance

The Vincentia Golf carpark received some much-needed attention on Thursday, 2 July with the A-Team coming to the rescue.

Five JBCSC volunteers, led by civil engineer Peter Jirgens, spent two hours filling in potholes with road base material that was stored at the golf club. The A-Team also included Graeme Gregor, Paul Brodie, Chris Davis and Pete Gale. Peter stated that “while these repairs are just temporary, more permanent repairs will be done after de-amalgamation has occurred”.

These photos capture the A-Team’s back-breaking work, and it was all done with a smile! Every golfer driving into the carpark has noticed a significant difference and appreciates the A-Team’s efforts.

July Working Bees

Gardening Working Bee Coordinator, Brenda Garnett, reports on the July working bees…

“Prior to the working bees, Greg Edwards from the Sanctuary Point Garden Centre volunteered his time to walk around the clubhouse to identify the plant species to remain and pest species to be removed. This assisted Brian Holland and I plan on what needed to be done at the working bees.

We also received donations of Green Waste and Household Tip vouchers from our community to assist with the removal of debris (for use until 31 July).

Two garden working bees were held on:

• Friday 10 July which had 29 volunteers, 6 trailers, and 14 loads of green waste

• Sunday 12 July which had 25 volunteers, 5 trailers and 1 ute, and another 14 loads of green waste.


It was fabulous to see more and more people arrive each morning, wearing their garden gloves and carrying their shovels, trimmers, hedgers, garden forks, rakes, pruning shears, buckets etc, with a can-do attitude, eager to do their bit to make the clubhouse surrounds look more inviting.

Both days were a hive of activity around the clubhouse and carpark, with volunteers rolling up their sleeves and getting stuck into tidying the gardens. Trailer load after trailer load of green waste was loaded up and taken away. It was amazing to see the difference in just two days. Brain and I just stood back at the end of each day and said "WOW". The amount of work done was beyond what we thought we would achieve!

These working bees clearly demonstrate what a fabulous community we have, a good mix of golfers and non-golfers all working together, keen to see JBCSC succeed. What a great place to live!”

“What a fantastic morning !

On a picture perfect Friday morning, an amazing team of volunteers chose community over comfort, giving their time and energy to help transform our club surrounds.

The battle against invasive weeds is well underway, dead shrubs have been removed, gardens and trees have been lovingly tidied, and the carpark and surrounding areas are now cleaner, safer, more accessible and far more welcoming.

Every shovel, every rake and every trailer load removed is another step towards creating a place our whole community can be proud to call its own.

To our wonderful volunteers from across the Bay and Basin, we thank you. Your generosity, enthusiasm and willingness to pitch in are an inspiration. You are proving that when a community shares a vision, extraordinary things can happen.

We also extend our sincere thanks to the SGBCC Board, Management and staff for their continued encouragement and practical support as we work together through the de-amalgamation process. Your cooperation and goodwill are helping turn a shared vision into reality.

JBCSC Volunteers at Husky Markets

On Sunday 12 July, three of the Fundraising Committee held a stall to promote of JBCSC’s Evening Celebration & Fundraiser being held at Worrowing, Jervis Bay on Saturday, 8 August.

There was also a lot of material available to educate the community and visitors about

JBCSC’s vision and journey to date. The Fundraising Committee has also been working hard behind the scenes collecting donation items from local business and individuals to support lucky door prizes, raffles and the auction on the night of the event. Introducing JBCSC’s new Volunteers Coordinator

JBCSC welcomes Kerry McKeand as our new Volunteers Coordinator.

Kerry moved to Vincentia in 2022, returning to the Shoalhaven after living in inner Melbourne for a long time. In 2025 Kerry retired from her career working in the fields of industrial relations, human resources, organisational development and workforce policy. Kerry’s experience in leading these functions was gained by working within Universities, the Victorian Department of Premier and Cabinet, regulatory and emergency management authorities and consulting within Victoria and the ACT. This work involved leading large and small teams.

Kerry’s interest in evolving working environments that can bring out the best in people led her to develop specialist skills via the completion of Master’s degree in designing systems of work to facilitate engagement and positive cultures. This work involved drawing upon her expertise in industrial relations, organisational development and change management, leadership, recruitment, induction, learning and development, managing teams, health, safety and wellbeing, policy development and staff engagement surveys and data.

In addition to her paid work Kerry volunteered with Red Cross Australia working within the Victorian flood and Fire Foxes outreach community recovery programs. This work involved visiting farms across rural flood grounds to offer assistance to farming communities and helping to coordinate social activities for fire affected communities such as day trips to the snow. Kerry also volunteered on the Cross Customer Care telephone service that is activated during a disaster to help communities register their safety.

Kerry is keen to offer these skills to continue the great work already undertaken to establish a community of JBCSC volunteers.
