JBCSC had a successful Pop-up stand at the Burton Street Mall on Easter Saturday and Sunday. Many thanks to Vincentia Matters for their kind invitation and hospitality in sharing their Pop-up space with JBCSC, we greatly appreciate your continued support. Those who visited the Easter Pop-up were reminded to either become members or check that their membership is current, ahead of voting for de-amalgamation at the SGBCC.
The JBCSC Board, Project Team, Community Working Group and volunteers continue to undertake a significant amount of work behind the scenes, as we keep pushing towards our goal of de-amalgamation and getting our new Community & Sports Club up and running.
During this time, we’ve received some questions from community members at recent events (including the Easter Pop-up) and via email, which are answered below.
Community Questions
1. Has a Financial Viability Report been submitted for assessment by an Independent Accountant?
The JBCSC Board has identified an expert Independent Accountant who is highly experienced in NSW Registered Clubs. At this time, work is still being done on finalising the FVR to be submitted for assessment by the independent accountant, based on several issues requiring further investigation. Some of these include:
IGT vendor inspection of the Vincentia club’s gaming facility has confirmed of the existing Poker machines, only 2 or 3 look like they can be fully restored to operational mode; however, getting parts could be problematic because all of them would be deemed ‘End of Life’ by the respective manufacturers. Alternatives, based on either second-hand replacement machines, and/or a suite of new Poker machines are currently being assessed.
Assessment of potential liabilities associated with the poor state of the golf course and leaking dam.
Obligations associated with the original DA to increase to 18 holes need to be fully investigated and understood.
There has been considerable work on the re-opening strategy which needs to include different and new revenue streams. Analysis so far indicates that re-opening as before (i.e., same approach and income streams) will not give the new club the best chance of survival long term. Therefore, members of the Community Working Group continue working in teams to draft business cases for potential JBCSC facilities, programs and services, to expand the new club’s offerings and income. Some of these have been finalised, with further work needed to complete other business cases. And of course, all of these feed into and support the FVR.
2. When will we be holding a vote at SGBCC for de-amalgamation?
The timing is unclear at this stage. To date, responses from the SGBCC lawyer on documents needed before member meetings have been minimal and slow. That said, we need to be mindful of the complex nature of legal consideration and drafting of such documents, and both parties are dealing with a number of complex technical issues regarding de-amalgamation while ensuring due diligence.
