This JBCSC Community Update aims to provide our supporters with more information about the fundraising campaign and de-amalgamation.
As many of you would be aware, last week JBCSC went public with its launch for fundraising for:
JBCSC Operations Fund (Donations for operating costs now); and
JBCSC Future Fund (Pledges for costs associated with getting the Club from de-amalgamation to being fully opened).
Here are some great questions asked and their answers.
1. Why does JBCSC need more than the $2 million required to de-amalgamate?
As you are aware, the new JBCSC has secured the $2 million required to pay the St Georges Basin Country Club (SGBCC) for the purchase of the Vincentia Golf Club precinct (the club and land). De-amalgamation funds are additional to the purchase price. However, at this stage, the new Board has not been provided with clarity as to what assets will remain at Vincentia following the de-amalgamation. Without this certainty, it is difficult to plan for the ongoing operation of both the golf course and the Club facilities.
2. How much will it cost to repair the Vincentia Clubhouse after all those water leaks for the last year?
These details are still to be finalised. Recent rain has exacerbated the roof leaks, and it appears has led to other damage, so we will need detailed repair quotes.
3. What sorts of essential items will JBCSC need for the new Club at Vincentia?
The SGBCC CEO, Mr Ben Clegg, has indicated to the JBCSC Board that a minimum of $200,000 will be required simply to open the Club. This amount accounts for essential items such as computers, tills, and the necessary fees for poker machine licences to run poker machines, membership and golf systems and inspections, stocks, etc. In addition, the JBCSC Board will need to employ staff in preparation for re-opening. Also, JBCSC does not yet know what equipment for the maintenance of the golf course will remain, and what will need to be replaced.
For start-up Club hospitality operations, JBCSC will need to get the Club back to a fully functioning safe venue for members and guests prior to re-opening. Currently there are kitchen renovations required, electrical works, carpets need replacement, mould needs removal, stock is needed for food and beverages. The status of furniture which can be used, fridges in bar and kitchen and items such as glasses, is unknown, without an asset register supplied by the SGBCC detailing what is included and ascertaining the condition of these.
4. What do the de-amalgamation costs cover? Aren’t these covered by the GoFund Me from the FoVGC?
In order to achieve de-amalgamation, the JBCSC is incurring legal costs and some initial accounting expenses, and these are expected to increase over the coming months as we move to get an independent accountant to assess future viability.
The FoVGC is a separate community-based organisation, independent from JBCSC Ltd. The FoVGC 'GoFundMe' funds are used exclusively by FoVGC, and do not form any part of JBCSC funds, nor the JBCSC fundraising campaigns.
5. Why are donations and pledges needed NOW for the JBCSC, directly from the community?
To prepare for these challenges, the JBCSC is undertaking fundraising activities NOW, to cover de-amalgamation operating costs and to ensure that the local community remains engaged and invested in the future of the Club. These efforts are not only vital to raising the funds required, but also in strengthening the sense of ownership and pride the community feels in securing this facility for future generations. Shortly, the JBCSC Board will need to prove that the community has a financial commitment to supporting the future of our Jervis Bay Community and Sports Club’s vision.
6. What are the JBCSC Board doing to get de-amalgamation happening?
We ask the community to have patience as both parties work through the novel and complex de-amalgamation process to secure the future of Vincentia Golf Club.
The Jervis Bay Community and Sports Club is progressing as planned; however, the acquisition process is necessarily complex and yes, it may be frustrating as it will take time to complete.
That is why we have provided the community with a detailed roadmap that clearly states the many steps involved in the de-amalgamation process.
We remain committed to transparency and will provide updates as soon as there are confirmed developments.
