On behalf of the JBCSC Board, Craig Hatton (Chair of JBCSC) wishes to provide this community update.
Dear Community,
A huge amount of work has been happening behind the scenes on financial viability calculations and documentation to establish your future club - the Jervis Bay Community & Sports Club. This step (Step 5) of the De-amalgamation roadmap has involved many conversations and consultation with a number of key industry experts. This step is a critical piece of work that JBCSC Board and Project Team needs to get right, and this takes considerable time. Significant hours has been invested in preparing and testing JBCSC’s financial projections so that we can demonstrate financial viability to an independent accountant and, eventually, the NSW Independent Liquor & Gaming Authority (ILGA).
However, part of the assessment of the ongoing viability of JBCSC is the level of community support in progressing your new club from a vision to reality. And this is why we need to bolster our fundraising efforts.
Much of the work to date has been accomplished using the expertise and time of local volunteers, including JBCSC Board, Project Team, Working Group and community groups. It’s been a huge community effort to get us to where we are now.
In early September, we announced the need for community fundraising to help JBCSC get through the de-amalgamation process, including essential legal and business costs, and initial accounting expenses, which are expected to increase over the coming months as we move to get an independent accountant to assess future viability. Tax deductible donations* can be submitted via Australian Sports Foundation JBCSC Operations Fund, and for those not seeking a tax deduction JBCSC is also now accepting donations via direct deposit*. Please see bank details at the bottom of this letter.
While JBCSC has secured $2M to pay the St Georges Basin Country Club, we need our community to help raise those de-amalgamation funds required to get the clubhouse open and operational.
While SGBCC CEO, Mr Ben Clegg, indicated to the JBCSC Board that a minimum of $200,000 will be required simply to open the Club, JBCSC Board believes we need significant hundreds of thousands “to get the Club back to a fully functioning safe venue for members and guests prior to re-opening”, and “the need to employ staff in preparation for re-opening”, as well as initial funds to take over the maintenance of the golf course and cover equipment replacement/purchase.
Pledges from the community to the JBCSC Future Fund are essential for JBCSC to help prove on-going financial viability of the club to the NSW ILGA to become a registered club, and these pledges are also critical in supporting future grant applications to secure significant funding for facility upgrades, new infrastructure, and establishing a range of community-based programs to make JBCSC a thriving community precinct for the Bay & Basin area.
The NSW ILGA needs to be convinced that our community is prepared to invest in, support and sustain JBCSC’s future.
This is where you all come in… donations and pledges both large AND small are essential.
As a community, we need to raise significant funds (in the $000Ks) to save our club and golf course, whether it’s $20, $50, $1000, $10,000 or more… all donations and pledges will help our community get our club back.
It’s in your hands
